RACING ASYMMETRICAL SPINNAKERS
Doyle's line of asymmetrical spinnakers is adding a new dimension to reaching and running. Covering the entire range from broad running to tight reaching, Doyle’s asymmetrical spinnakers allow you to realize the full downwind potential of your boat. Designed in a CFD environment for optimal efficiency, and coupled with testing in the real world, Doyle’s Asymmetrical spinnakers maximize projected area, and utilize construction techniques that maximize the cloth’s strengths and ensure stable flying shape.
A1
A lightweight VMG sail that can be used to sail lower wind angles. This sail is for those that require light weight sails to improve their boats’ downwind sailing.
Recommended True Wind Angle: 95 – 140 degrees
Recommended True Wind Speed: 4 – 9 knots
A2
A durable sail that can be used in a wide wind range and has the maximum mid girth. This sail is designed to be very stable and be can be sailed at lower VMG running angles. Usually this sail is made in light to medium weight material.
Recommended True Wind Angle: 140 – 150 degrees
Recommended True Wind Speed: 9 – 20 knots
A3
An all-purpose reaching sail, effective in use through small wind ranges and angles, it is designed to help the boat accelerate quickly in unstable conditions. This sail is slightly flatter than a traditional A1 and with less mid girth – the sail projects better when the wind speed increases.
Recommended True Wind Angle: 125 - 138 degrees
Recommended True Wind Speed: 14 - 20 knots
A4
A heavy weather running gennaker that has the highest possible mid girth to give the sail the ability to project into the wind and sail deeper angles. Most often built in strong spinnaker cloth, a similar sail to an A2 but built for a higher wind range.
Recommended True Wind Angle: 138 – 160 degrees
Recommended True Wind Speed: 20 - 30 knots
A5
A heavy weather reaching gennaker designed with more strength than an A3 and designed to be sailed at higher angles.
Recommended True Wind Angle: 120 - 130 degrees
Recommended True Wind Speed: 15 - 22 knots
A6
A heavy weather reaching/running gennaker designed with more strength than an A4 and designed to be sailed at lower angles.
Recommended True Wind Angle: 140 - 160 degrees
Recommended True Wind Speed: 23 - 35 knots
